Our sincere appreciation goes to Skip Gorman for his work on the Town Hall Centennial Monument. Special thanks to Noble Grand Humbug Dale Charter and Peter Lebeck Chapter #1866 of the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus for their help with the Town Hall Centennial Monument and this publication.
Additional thanks to Jack Minton and friends for supplying open cars for the parade, John Rogerson for making the car show happen and Les Wood
and Inyokern Iron for bringing their old tractors to our event.
The Centennial Celebration would have been a dismal affair without the organizational skills and old fashioned hard work of Russ and Adrienne Mathewson, Bobby and Lauranna Daniels, Ed McBride, Bob Mize and Helle Murphree. Support beyond the call also came from Peggy Breeden, Pat Farris and members of the Inyokern Rotary Club. Paul Colter did an excellent job of announcing the parade. NAWS is responsible for the F-18 fly over that kicked off the parade. The Kern County Sheriff's Department helped with traffic control and also managed to have three vehicles in the parade line-up.
The town of Inyokern owes a debt of gratitude to the fine people who went out of their way to make our 100th birthday a special event.
Our town received resolutions or letters of congratulations from Congressman Kevin McCarthy, State Senator Roy Ashburn, Assembly member Jean Fuller, the County of Kern and the City of Ridgecrest. Supervisor Jon McQuiston was the Master of Ceremonies at our Centennial Dinner. The Reverend Dr. Edward Jayne of Ridgecrest gave the invocation.
The many visitors and parade entrants made our Centennial Celebration an awesome event.
The Webmaster was pleased to hear that the Inyokern Chamber of Commerce President took a dunking in the Centennial dunk tank from Congressman Kevin McCarthy via his assistant Benjamin McFarland. I will take this as a point in my column on the score card of our ongoing feud. The Chamber President may have a slight edge on me in popular opinion, but I have the press! I predict an upset in the election of 2010 Chamber of Commerce officers. A very special thank you to Congressman Kevin McCarthy and Benjamin McFarland for their help. The dunk tank was sponsored by the Rebel Cheerleaders who deserve credit for making this happen.
