Elizabeth "Liz" Babcock is well known in the Indian Wells Valley.  She is active in the Chamber of Commerce, the Historical Society of the Upper Mojave Desert, and is also the author of Magnificent Mavericks.  Liz also writes the newsletters for the Historical  and the Ridgewriters and she can often be seen taking photos at local events.

Magnificent Mavericks contains much of the history of the Naval Ordnance Test Station at China Lake from 1948 to 1958.

Liz retired in 1996 from China Lake.  She works for the News Review and is history curator for the Maturango Museum.  She will be at the Inyokern Town Hall on September 26th and will be discussing the history of Inyokern, at which time copies of Magnificent Mavericks will be available.

As neighbor of the month Liz also received a gift certificate from Torres Steakhouse in Inyokern.  Inyokern thanks Liz for her continuing volunteer work and for her support of the communities of the Indian Wells Valley
Elizabeth Babcock was presented with the Neighbor of the Month Award at the HSUMD monthly meeting, where she gave a presentation on the history of Inyokern.
