Inyokern Rotary October 2008 Highlights

At the October 21st meeting the GSE team from northern Thailand spoke about their lives in Thailand and shared their Rotary experiences. Text and photos below are provided courtesy of the Rotary Club of Ojai-West.
Team leader Busabong Jamroendarasme is a pharmacist and pharmacologist in Bangkok. She described Thailand as a small county, located near Vietnam, Malaysia and China. The country is divided into four regions and has a population of 63 million. The government is a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy. The capital is Bangkok, a city of 8 – 10 million, which will host the 2012 International Rotary Convention.
Thossaporn Pattanachareon, or "Aoy" teaches English in grades 8 – 11 at a private school in Sukothai, about five hours’ drive from Bankok.
She showed slides of beautiful hand woven fabrics and artwork, discussed the Light Festival that occurs in March of every year and offered to “be your guide” to anyone visiting Sukothai.
Pompat Rittichai is a music teacher in Ultaradit. He showed slides of giant sequoia trees and durian, a fruit that “smells very bad but tastes very good.”
Pichipon Thoungteuck is also a teacher who resides in Chiang Rai, a city on the southern Thai border near Laos.
He showed slides of the Princess Palace and beautiful flowers found in his city.
Chaturayut Promnil worked for seven years as a city planner in Chiang Mai, the second largest city in Thailand.
He showed slides of some of the 200 temples in Chiang Mai, street markets and homes built of adobe and teak, as well as McDonald’s, Starbucks and Haagan Daz.
