Neighbors of the Month July 2008
CONGRATULATIONS LOTTIE KENNEDY
The Neighbor of the Month can be anyone you know. This could be that special person who always has a smile or kind word or is willing to help when you need a hand. This honor will include a photo posted on this page and a caption or short biography.
It's the smiles that make Inyokern the Sunshine Capital of America!

If you have been meaning to take an interesting class, perhaps brush up on language skills, study Scripture, or learn how to read the Bible in the original Greek and Hebrew languages, there is someone in Ridgecrest/Inyokern who can help you.
Lottie Kennedy relocated to our community just prior to her 80th birthday. Since her move here nearly three years ago, she's been busy teaching classes at local churches including the Methodist Church in Inyokern, Calvary Chapel, the Church of the Nazarene, and the Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church in Ridgecrest.
At the First Methodist Church, Pastor McKinney and his wife, Ariel, were kind enough to allow their facility to be used in order to teach an adult Hebrew class. "People who came to class were wonderful; they provided refreshments, studied diligently, had a great sense of humor (we laughed a lot!) and were open and willing to learn." Lottie says. "I made many good friends."
Lottie, an ordained Elder in the Christian faith, received her Master's in Theology at Marquette University in Wisconsin. She's been teaching classes in Greek, Hebrew, and the historical background of Scripture for 35 years, first in Wisconsin and now in our community.
"I really enjoy teaching Greek and Hebrew classes for the home-schoolers. The students are well disciplined and mannerly."
Lottie loves Ridgecrest and Inyokern, and says she feels an overwhelming sense of community with friendly people. She also appreciates the weather and the small-town atmosphere; Lottie doesn't miss the Wisconsin blizzards or the traffic jams.
She's quite an amazing gal. An avid reader, Lottie believes in lifelong education for everyone. She'd like to see an exchange library available, perhaps at local churches, where people can bring their books to be made available to others. "Everyone has books they'd like to share with others. We started doing that at Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church. We don't have to check out books or worry about when they're returned. We can bring any books we have and leave them there."
Lottie also gardens, cooks, writes poetry, and walks in the fresh air every day. She is looking forward to tutoring students this summer.
Lottie wishes everyone in Inyokern, "Shalom!"
The neighbor of the month for July was suggested by Diane Sigala. Diane also wrote the following article. Lottie is a relative newcomer to the Indian Wells Valley and her sense of community is appreciated.
