ONYX  EMPORIUM
Anyone who is a regular westbound traveler of Highway 178 knows the first store and gas station in the Kern River Valley is the Onyx Emporium.  True to their advertising they are the "first stop in and last stop out of Kern River Valley."  To the residents of Onyx CA and neighboring towns Onyx Emporium is a vital lifeline for groceries, fuel and  community information.  Onyx Emporium is located at 23822 Highway 178 in Onyx, phone number (760) 378-2151.  Winter hours are 7 to 8 Sunday-Thursday and 7-9 Friday & Saturday.
Local Residents Glenn Roberts, Leonard Phillips and the Webmaster had the pleasure of soaking up some heat from the fireplace at Onyx Emporium.  Glenn owns local Onyx Business All Built Fence Company.

Stop in and enjoy some of the unforgettable country atmosphere.

Onyx Emporium has the grocery basics and specialty items, such as local honey and Minnetonka moccasins.  In rural towns like Onyx stores like the emporium are essential to the community and should be acknowledged as such.  Keep up the good work!
Leonard uses his John Deere Gator for local trips around Onyx.  He will be proud to tell you that it was previously owned by local Kern River legend Johnny McNally.  If you want to know more about Onyx, look for Leonard's Gator and stop in for a spell.
The Onyx Emporium recently changed hands.  Wayne and CC Roper came from Delano and brought their sense of community with them.  CC put up Christmas stockings for the neighborhood kids.  Wayne encourages folks to visit and take a moment to relax in front of the fire, and there are free refills on coffee too.
