COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING AT IT'S BEST!
Just George, Viejo Oso and Cowboy Earl brace themselves against the cold in the shadow of a wind-stretched flag.
Cowboy Action Shooters all have a colorful alias. Just George, Wrangler Red, Red Dog Don, M.C. Ryder and Nasty Newt start with the safety meeting and discuss the plans for the day's shoot.
The clock has been turned back six score and more with the shooters dressed in vintage clothing of the time. A good shooting score is dependent on memory, speed, and accuracy. The instructions for the shooting sequence are given when the shooter reaches the stage. Then the shooter unloads on the targets with rifle, shotgun and pistol, all in the correct sequence with good speed and accuracy. Scores do matter so as a visitor please be respectful of the shooter by not disturbing their concentration.
Spectators get to enjoy the excitement of the gunfire, the ring of the targets and the sweet smell of freshly burned powder. The blast of smoke from the barrel and the beautiful backdrop of the Southern Sierras further add to this sensory journey back to old west America. It's difficult to keep from smiling and laughing out loud with the Vigilantes when the shoot begins.
Duelin' Tom, The Bodie Kid and Ben Maverick in a friendly discussion before the shoot.
The one and only Duelin' Tom reminds you that hearing and eye protection will be required when the shooting starts!
Red Dog Don made the trip from Squirrel Valley/ Mt. Mesa to be in the shoot.
Nasty Newt makes the targets ring as he empties his revolver.
Chippewa Girl and her husband Ben Maverick made the trip from Lone Pine, the Bodie kid came down from Bridgeport.
Nasty Newt loads the chambers of his double barrel shotgun.
Dust flies on the range as the shooting scenario plays out.
Ever get the feeling you are being watched?
