Peggy Breeden was awarded the Inyokern Neighbor of the Month award for outstanding service to the communities of the Indian Wells Valley. This photo was taken at the preparation for the 2009 Maturango Junction event in Ridgecrest. In true "Peggy" fashion she chose to share this moment with two other volunteers, Bill Folden and Mike Hunsinger of the Roadrunners Car Club.
The difficulty with honoring people like Peggy is asking what can a community do to thank someone who does so much and do it in a meaningful way? The only answer I could come up with is to use her example to inspire others, because like many volunteers, Peggy doesn't do it for the awards. If you have the pleasure of meeting her you will appreciate this.
Peggy has been a member of the Ridgecrest Chamber of Commerce board since 2002 and served as Chamber President in 2003-04. Peggy has been a prime mover in many activities in the City of Ridgecrest. She is a driving force behind several highly successful street fairs and festivals including Maturango Junction held this year at Freedom Park.
Her community involvement has also included IWV Airport Board, and work in many capacities for the Inyokern Chamber of Commerce. She currently serves on the board of Desert Valleys Federal Credit Union. Those volunteer activities have helped her to gain a comprehensive perspective on what's needed to foster a healthy business environment for the entire valley.
Peggy is the owner of the Swap Sheet and she frequently contributes free space in her publication for community organizations to advertise special events. Peggy is also a generous supporter of the Historical Society of the Upper Mojave Desert. Peggy also helped to fund renovation for the USO building.
Peggy also supports the Women's Center High Desert and Habitat for Humanity. She has also served as chair of the Nominating Committee for the Maturango Museum.
Thank you Peggy for your service to the communities of the Indian Wells Valley.
